God’s Grace to Grow
2 Timothy 1:3-7
I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
We cannot grow in God or be used by Him without His grace. As We draw near to God, He draws near to us. Then, in God’s faithfulness, much can happen!
The Apostle Paul was speaking to his son in the faith in the scripture passage above. Timothy had served in spreading the gospel of eternal life in Christ Jesus with Paul, who had nurtured him in the work of the Lord. Paul chose Timothy due to his genuine faith. But how did that faith grow so well?
The passage shows that Timothy was immersed in sincere faith in God from an early age. The example of his grandmother and mother had taken root, and the Holy Spirit clearly had the chance to work in Timothy’s life.
Paul was now encouraging Timothy to boldly fulfil the ministry he was called to. At that time Timothy was still relatively young, but already a church leader in Ephesus. His growth and effectiveness were becoming more evident, and God trusted and used him. How striking to have his life included in the Holy Scriptures!
Do you want to feel God’s pleasure over your life, and let Him mould you into the beautiful image of His Son Jesus Christ? Would you like the Lord to fulfil the eternal purposes He planned to do through you? Fully commit your life to Him, and grow in His grace as you draw near to Him. Do your best to obey in the easy and the hard times. He loves you. Watch what He will do as you love Him in return.
