Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Most people are seeking fulfillment; enjoyment and effectiveness. Often, family and friendships rank high in personal pursuits for people. Many other things are sought after too, to be happy. But what is the source of your greatest pleasure?
Is your delight building finance and buying things, a beautiful house, food, or clothes? For many, sport takes a prominent place in their priorities, and brings great excitement. Is perceived success at work, or popularity driving you to focus hard on excelling? Some are even willing to “step on others’ toes” to climb the ladder of success.
For those who become hard or deceptive in their dealings towards others, it’s like playing in mud. Their life will become sullied and unwholesome. Guilt, shame, and anxious thoughts can become entrenched, and then where has joy gone? Focusing mainly on achievement or pleasure tends to bring fleeting results.
The Bible says to love God first - He is our Maker, and all blessings come from Him. As you draw near to Him through difficult and wonderful times, you will realize how ready and able He is to help. There are times we all need to ask for forgiveness, and we need His wisdom often. His Word in the Bible is paramount. The Lord has done much for us, and is always there.
When Jesus died and rose again, He made a way back to our God. Centering on God means He can organize and bless everything in our life. As we see Him at work in us and through us, He truly becomes our greatest treasure!
Is a real friendship with God your greatest motivation? That is the way to genuine, lasting fulfillment. In His presence is fullness of joy!
