Wisdom and Truth
1 Cor. 1:26-27
For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh,
not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen
the foolish things of the world to shame the wise,
and God has chosen the weak things of the world
to shame the things which are strong,
Do you feel weary, unimportant or misunderstood? Some see others as weak or foolish, but God may see them as the most wise and trusted, when they depend on Him.
The Lord calls all, not just those especially intelligent, strong or gifted. Indeed, He has particularly chosen the weak to be rich in faith and inherit the things of the Kingdom of God. And they are often the ones who realise their need of God as He draws them to Himself.
It is the Spirit of God who works all things after the Father’s will. A closed heart, or pride will shut God out. But a humble and contrite spirit opens the way to God. A good example of this is Smith Wigglesworth.
Smith Wigglesworth was born in the mid 1800s, in a poor family. He had little schooling, beginning to work at a young age to help his family. Through his grandmother’s influence, he responded to God’s call and gave his life to Him. He worked as a plumber for some years, whilst he married and raised a family, and learned and grew in the things of God. In time he became significant and well-known, used greatly by God to see large numbers of people turn to God, heal many from various illnesses, and even raise some from the dead. He was known as the ‘Apostle of Faith’, believing and acting on God’s Scripture.
The world may despise or ignore some, but God’s estimation of them can be very high! The quantity or even quality of output by self-effort will not approve one to God. The one who truly loves and is close to the Lord, obedient to His Spirit’s leading becomes wise and receives His strength.
God will bless and use anyone who will surrender and yield to Him. Great joy and fulfilment is their lot!
